What was claimed

Gemini can now fix your photos so well people will think you hired a pro. It keeps your face and your identity the same

Our verdict

Needs caution

While Google's latest Gemini update enhances AI photo editing by preserving the natural appearance of faces and is supposed to keep people recognizable across every edit, this requires explicit instruction. Gemini does not "lock" a person's identity the way some face-consistency tools do, and even when using the same reference photo, small changes can cause Gemini to reinterpret facial details. Assessment summary

  • The claim contains both accurate and misleading elements.
  • Gemini does have photo editing capabilities that can produce professional-quality results, but the assertion that it "keeps your face and your identity the same" is overstated.
  • While Gemini has improved at preserving facial features, it requires careful prompting and doesn't automatically maintain identity—users must explicitly instruct it to preserve facial details.

It keeps your face and your identity the same

Misleading
While Google's latest Gemini update enhances AI photo editing by preserving the natural appearance of faces and is supposed to keep people recognizable across every edit, this requires explicit instruction. Gemini does not "lock" a person's identity the way some face-consistency tools do, and even when using the same reference photo, small changes can cause Gemini to reinterpret facial details. If you never tell Gemini what not to change, it may improve, beautify, sharpen, or reshape the face in ways that make the result look like someone else.
